Before you buy
On keynate.com you pick a template while you buy. Try the live demo first. See Choose a template and Try a template's live demo.
Steps: compare a template on your own site
- Open Settings and choose Change template.
- Under Templates for your site, look at the preview pictures. Your current design is marked Current template.
- Each template shows whether it is part of your plan. You see In your plan or Not in your plan.
- Pick one and choose Preview in this template.
- Confirm. The message is "Build a private preview of your site in {name}? Readers keep seeing your current site."
- Wait a few minutes. The steps you see are Getting the template ready…, Preparing your preview… and Preview ready.
- Choose Preview on phone, tablet and laptop, or Open in a new tab.
- Read What carries over. It tells you what was kept, adjusted or can't carry over.
- If you like it, choose Publish this template. If not, choose Cancel preview. Your live site never changed.
What to look at in a preview
- Your home page, one story, one section page and your search page.
- Your logo and colours.
- Your menu on a phone.
- Your ad places, if you use ads.
- Any custom code. It can target the old design, so check it.
Good to know
- Same kind of site only. You can choose a template made for your site's category. If you pick another, you see: "This template isn’t available for your site’s category."
- Not on your plan? You see Not in your plan and the button Buy on keynate.com. See Template switch and billing.
- Go back at any time. You can choose Go back to {the earlier template} and your site returns to the version before.
- A safety check. If the new template fails the check after publishing, your site stays on the version before. Nothing is lost.
- If a switch can't start. You may see: "The template switch can’t do that right now. Check its state and try again."
