Check 1: are ads switched on?
- Open Settings and choose Ads.
- Check that Show ads is on. Save. The message is Ad settings saved.
Check 2: the network details
- AdSense. Enter your AdSense publisher ID. It starts with ca-pub-. Find it in your AdSense account.
- Ad Manager. Enter your Ad Manager network code. It has 3 to 12 digits, only digits.
- If you use Ad Manager but it isn't connected, you see "Connect Google Ad Manager first." See Google Ad Manager.
Check 3: each slot
- In the Ad slots list, find the slot.
- Check that Show this slot is on.
- Pick the Ad network.
- For AdSense, enter the slot id. It must have 6 to 12 digits. For Ad Manager, enter the Ad unit path.
- Check Devices. A slot set to Phones only won't show on a computer.
- Check the pages: Home, Article, Category, Topic, Author, Live blog, Live TV, Search and Static page.
If your design has no slots, the screen says "Your design has no ad slots." Mappings are kept if you switch designs. See Ad slots.
Check 4: limits and layout
Ads per page sets the most ads on a page, the most inside a story, and the paragraphs between ads. If a limit is too low, fewer ads show. Space for ads is reserved, so pages don't jump even when an ad is empty.
Check 5: ads.txt
Paste the lines your ad networks give you in the ads.txt box. They are served at /ads.txt. The box tells you if lines look wrong. For apps, use app-ads.txt.
Check 6: is the site ready?
- Your site must be public. See My site shows a coming soon page.
- Open Growth → Ads & deals → Ready to earn from ads?. It checks your site against what ad networks publicly ask for and shows what to fix first. Items include ads.txt and a Google-certified consent tool for visitors from Europe and the UK. See Ready to earn from ads?.
Good to know
- A new network account may need the network's own approval first. This guide can't say when it ends.
- Ad blockers hide ads from some readers.
- Script or HTML ads. If you see "HTML and script ads are switched off for this site. The owner can switch them on in the ad settings." the owner must turn them on and accept the warning first.
