How do I set the rules for comments?

Where: Readers & money → Comments → Comment settings

Open this page: admin.<your-site>/comments/settings (replace <your-site> with your site address)

Before you start

Only the site owner can change these settings.

Steps

1. Open Readers & money → Comments and tap the Rules tab. It shows your comment settings.
2. Under Comments on new stories, choose On: new stories accept comments or Off: comments are open only on stories where you turn them on.
3. Under How comments are checked, choose a mode. See How comments are checked.
4. Under Rules, set the numbers. See Comment rules.
5. Open More controls for extra limits.
6. Tap Save.

Good to know

• More controls has: Readers can like comments, Longest comment (characters), Hide a comment after this many reports, Alert me when this many comments wait, Comments per reader per hour, Comments per internet connection per hour and Seconds between two comments.
• Each box shows its allowed range. A number outside the range is refused and the message names the field: "…: enter a whole number from … to …."
• You can still open or close comments on each story.
