Type a word or a question to search the help articles.

How does search on my site work and how do I improve it?

In this story

Where: Growth → Search & SEO → What readers search

Open this page: admin.<your-site>/search (replace <your-site> with your site address)

Steps

  1. Open Settings → Site & brand → Add features. The page is called Features.
  2. Find Site search under For your site. If it is not there, open Other niches. Tap Switch on (or Show in my admin). When it shows On, it is ready.
  3. If it shows Needs and a plan name, your plan does not include it yet. See Choose a plan.
  4. Open Growth → Search & SEO → What readers search. The page is called What readers search for.
  5. Use Try a search to type what a reader would type.
  6. Pin, boost or hide a story, or add a synonym.

Good to know

  • The defaults suit most sites. Ranking lets you change how results are ordered.
  • Only the site owner can switch features on. Others see: "Only the owner can add features. Ask the owner to switch one on."

Common problems

A new story does not appear in search. Why: Search may need a rebuild. Fix: Open Search health and rebuild search. See Why is search not finding my story?.

I cannot find Site search in my admin. Why: The feature is off or not yet installed. Fix: Open Settings → Site & brand → Add features and tap Switch on or Show in my admin. If a screen says "This feature is switched off. The owner can switch it on in Features.", ask the owner.
