How do I set up a paywall for premium stories?

In this story

Where: Readers & money → Paywall

Open this page: admin.<your-site>/money/paywall (replace <your-site> with your site address). In the menu it sits under More.

Before you start

  • Create at least one plan.
  • On each story, under Who can read this story, choose Members.
  • Readers can only sign in when you have turned it on. See Let readers sign in.
  • Changing the free sign-in prompt needs the permission to change reader settings.

Steps

  1. Open Readers & money, then Paywall.
  2. In Free premium stories, set Free stories every 30 days.
  3. Choose Preview length (how many paragraphs everyone sees).
  4. Tap Save on that card.
  5. If you want, set up the Free sign-in prompt and tap Save on its card.

Good to know

  • Each story has its own setting: Everyone, Signed-in readers, Members, chosen plans or Only invited readers. See Who can read this story.
  • Free views are counted per visitor. After the free stories, visitors see the first paragraphs (the preview) and an offer to subscribe.
  • 0 free stories means premium stories are locked right away.
  • The preview length is what everyone sees, search engines too.
  • Each card has its own Save.
  • Examples on the page update as you change the numbers.
