How do I change my story address format?

In this story

Where: Settings → Content & publishing → Google and web addresses

Open this page: admin.<your-site>/settings/seo (replace <your-site> with your site address)

Before you start

  • You need permission to manage SEO.

Steps

  1. Open Settings → Content & publishing → Google and web addresses.
  2. Under Story address format, pick one of the formats, or type a Custom format.
  3. Check Example story address.
  4. Press Change format and confirm.
  5. The page says "Address format changed. Redirects are being added." and shows "Adding redirects for your stories…".

Good to know

  • Use {section}, {slug}, {id}, {yyyy}, {mm} and {dd}, with letters, numbers or dashes. Include {slug} or {id} so every story gets its own address.
  • The format must start with /.
  • Changing the format moves every published story to a new address. Keynate adds a permanent redirect for each published story, so old links and search rankings keep working.
  • The page shows how many redirects the last change created.

Common problems

  • "The format must start with /."
  • "Only {section} {slug} {id} {yyyy} {mm} {dd} are allowed in braces."
  • "Include {slug} or {id} so every story gets its own address."
  • "Use only lowercase letters, numbers and dashes between the tokens."
  • "Put a dash or slash between two tokens."
  • "The last address change is still adding redirects. Try again in a moment."
