Google or Bing doesn't show my site or my stories

In this story

Where: Settings → Content & publishing → Google and web addresses

Open this page: admin.<your-site>/settings/seo (replace <your-site> with your site address)

Check 1: is your site public?

While your site is not public, search engines are asked not to list it. Open Settings → Site & brand → Site visibility. It must say Public. Hidden for a long time can lower your search ranking. See Site visibility.

Check 2: is the story hidden from search?

  1. Open the story in the editor.
  2. Open Can Google find this story?.
  3. Look at:
    • In the sitemap
    • Hidden from search (noindex)
    • Main address (canonical)
    • Search engines told (IndexNow)
  4. If you see "Yes, search engines are asked to skip this story", the story has "don't index" set. Turn it off in the story.
  5. A story can also be hidden "Because it is an unreviewed machine translation." Review the translation.

Embargoed, noindex and sponsored stories are never sent to search engines through IndexNow.

Check 3: robots rules

In Settings → Content & publishing → Google and web addresses, the box Extra robots.txt rules says: "For experts. Wrong rules can hide your site from Google." If you see "This rule would block {agent} from your whole site, which stops search traffic or ads. Remove the rule or allow that crawler.", remove the rule.

Check 4: connect your own search accounts

Add your site in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools with your own accounts. Then connect them in Growth → Search & SEO → Get found on Google. You see clicks and impressions here. We never use anyone else's account for your site. See Search engine data.

Check 5: health checks

Open Growth → Search & SEO → Google checkup. It checks your latest stories, pictures and sitemaps and lists what to fix. See SEO health checks.

Good to know

  • New sites take time. A new site or story may take days or weeks to appear. This guide can't say when.
  • IndexNow sends new, changed and removed stories to supporting search engines every minute. See IndexNow.
  • The panel Can Google find this story? only checks. It shows how your story is offered to search engines. It is not a ranking promise.
  • No guarantees. Nothing here guarantees a place in search results, Google News, Discover or AI answers.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Why does my story show in my own search but not on Google?

Your own search reads every published story. Google lists only what it chooses.

Can Keynate submit my pages to Google?

Your sitemap is available to search engines, and IndexNow notifies the engines that support it. Google Search Console is where you check Google's view.
