In this story

Where: Growth → Search & SEO → Google checkup

Open this page: admin.<your-site>/settings/seo/health (replace <your-site> with your site address). If you don’t see it in the menu, turn on Show all settings on the Settings page.

Before you start

  • You need permission to manage SEO.

Steps

  1. Open Growth → Search & SEO → Google checkup.
  2. Under What we checked, see how many of your newest published stories were checked.
  3. Read the counts: Stories with something to fix, Lead pictures without alt text, Pictures in text without alt text, Lead pictures under 1,200 px wide, Pages without a description, Changed addresses without a redirect and Addresses readers could not open.
  4. Where you see Fix with redirects, tap it to send broken addresses to the right page.
  5. Most common things to fix lists the problems found most often.
  6. Under Page lists for Google, check each list says Up to date. If a list stays Out of date or Not made yet, contact support.
  7. Google News list shows how many stories are ready to list. Only stories from the last 48 hours are listed, with their first publish time.
  8. Under Check one page, type a page address (or a path such as /latest) and tap Check this page.

What the one-page check says

  • Good. Google can read the main facts of this page.
  • … things Google needs are missing. Tap See details to fix them.
  • Google finds no story facts on this page. Normal for some pages, not for stories.
  • This page didn't open, so Google can't read it. Check the address, and that your site is public.

Visits from Google, AI and apps

Shows how often search engines, AI search and answers, AI training and social previews opened your pages. Pick the Period. Far fewer visits than usual can mean a problem. A visit doesn't mean a page is listed in Google or used by an AI.

Good to know

  • Your page lists for Google are /sitemap.xml and /news-sitemap.xml. Keynate makes and updates them for you. You don't need to send them anywhere: your site's robots.txt file points search engines to them.
  • Your site also has /llms.txt and /llms-full.txt: a short guide and your latest stories for AI tools. They are made for you. Which AI services may read your site is set in Settings → Content & publishing → Google and web addresses.
  • Pages kept out of search are not in the page lists.
