How do I add an announcement bar to my site?

Where: Stories → Announcement bar

Open this page: admin.<your-site>/announcement-bar (replace <your-site> with your site address). In the menu it sits under More.

Before you start

• Owners, admins and editors can change bars. Others can look but not change them.

Steps

1. Open Stories then Announcement bar.
2. Tap Add a bar.
3. Type the Text (up to 160 characters).
4. Optionally add a Link (a page like /elections, or a full https address) and Button text (up to 24 characters, needs a link).
5. Choose the Colour: Calm, Brand colour or Urgent (red).
6. Set Start and End if you want it to run for a time.
7. Under Show on choose the languages. Tick Show this bar and Readers can close it as needed.
8. Tap Save. Your site shows the change within a minute.

Good to know

• Each language shows the first bar that is on, made for that language and inside its dates. Use Move up and Move down to set the order.
• A bar with an end date disappears on its own.
• A closed bar stays closed on that reader’s device until you change the text.
