Before you start
- Only the site owner can connect OpenRouter.
- You need an OpenRouter account. A free account is enough.
Connect OpenRouter
- Open your site admin.
- Open AI chat (or AI workspace). Find OpenRouter: your own AI account.
- Tap Connect OpenRouter. You sign in at openrouter.ai and come straight back.
- You see OpenRouter is connected.
- Leave the model on Automatic (free). Free models are picked for you.
- If one-click connect is not available, tap Paste a key instead, paste your OpenRouter key and tap Save key.
For the full steps, see How do I connect my own OpenRouter account?
Disconnect OpenRouter
- Open AI chat (or AI workspace) in your site admin.
- Under OpenRouter: your own AI account, tap Disconnect.
- The assistant stops until you connect again. Your site and your past changes stay as they are.
Check what you use
- Sign in at openrouter.ai to see your usage and your credit.
- Your admin also keeps an AI log of every AI call and who asked for it. AI log
- You can set a monthly spending cap in your admin. AI budget and limits
Faster and better models
- Add credit on your own OpenRouter account at openrouter.ai.
- Then use Choose model (or Advanced: choose a model) to pick a stronger model, or stay on Automatic (free).
- Pick a cheaper model for small jobs and a stronger one for big ones. You can switch at any time.
- The model must be able to make changes to your site. If a model can't, choose another one or choose Automatic (free).
Good to know
- You pay OpenRouter directly. OpenRouter bills you for each model at its own price. Keynate adds no AI charge.
- Free models cost nothing. They can be slower, and they can be busy at peak times.
- Keynate never sees your key. It is kept only on your site's own server and is never shown again.
- Paid add-ons that use AI, such as AI Autopilot, are billed by Keynate. The AI they use runs on your OpenRouter account.
Common problems
- A free model is busy. Try again in a minute. Or choose another model. Or choose Automatic (free), which moves to a free model that is available.
- The assistant says it can't change the site. That model can't make site changes. Choose another model or Automatic (free).
- "OpenRouter doesn't accept this key any more." The key was revoked. Connect again or paste a new key.
- The assistant stopped working. Check that OpenRouter is connected. If you chose a paid model, check that your OpenRouter account still has credit, or switch to Automatic (free). AI not working
Questions
Frequently asked questions
Can I buy AI credits from Keynate?
No. Keynate does not sell AI credits or AI packs. Plans don't include any. You pay OpenRouter directly, and only if you want paid models.
Do I need to pay to use the AI assistant?
No. A free OpenRouter account and the free models are enough. You don't need a card.
A message says my AI is used up. What do I do?
Keynate sells no AI credits, so the AI runs on your own AI account. Connect one in Settings → Content & publishing → Your AI accounts. Use your own AI key
Does Keynate see my key or my AI bill?
No. Your key stays on your server, and OpenRouter bills you directly.
