How do I let readers sign in with Google?

In this story

Where: Settings → Readers & money → Connections (Sign in with Google section)

Open this page: admin.<your-site>/settings/connections#kn-hub-google (replace <your-site> with your site address)

Before you start

  • You need a Google Cloud account.
  • Only the owner can save the secret.

Steps

  1. Open Settings → Readers & money → Connections (Sign in with Google section).
  2. Press Open Google Cloud and go to Credentials.
  3. Create an OAuth client ID and choose Web application.
  4. Under Authorized JavaScript origins, paste Your site address (Authorized JavaScript origin). Under Authorized redirect URIs, paste Redirect address (Authorized redirect URI). Both are shown on the card.
  5. Copy the Client ID and Client secret Google shows.
  6. Paste them into Client ID and Client secret in Keynate.
  7. Turn on Readers can sign in with Google.
  8. Save, then press the test button. A good result says "Google accepted your Client ID and secret."

Good to know

  • The client secret is stored encrypted and never shown again. Leave it empty to keep the saved one.
  • If saving here isn't available yet on your site, paste the Client ID on the Reader sign-in page instead.

Common problems

  • "Google client ids end with .apps.googleusercontent.com."
  • "Paste the Client ID from Google."
  • "Add the Client secret to run the test."
