How do I show a message on top of every page?

Where: Settings → Site & brand → Site banners

Open this page: admin.<your-site>/settings/banners (replace <your-site> with your site address)

Before you start

• You need permission to change the layout. If the page says "Ask the site owner to change this", ask the owner.

Steps: show a message on every page

1. Open Settings → Site & brand → Site banners.
2. On the Announcement bar card press Edit the announcement bar.
3. Write the short notice. You can add a link and button text.
4. Set a start and an end date if you like.
5. Tap Save. The card shows Scheduled or Showing now. For all the options, see Announcement bar.

Steps: set up a pop-up

1. On the Pop-up card press Edit the pop-up.
2. Choose what it offers: a newsletter, email list, membership or push invitation, or a plain message.
3. Choose when it appears: after a delay, or when the reader scrolls.
4. Save. The card shows Showing, or Hidden with a reason.

Good to know

• Announcement bar. It sits above the masthead. Readers can close it. Colours come from your template, so the text always stays easy to read.
• Cookie banner. It asks readers about cookies where the law requires it. It is always on where it is required. Only the owner can change it. See Cookie notice.
• Pop-up. It never shows on the first view of a page, is shown once per visitor, and is calm for readers who prefer less motion.
• Hidden: its goal doesn't work yet. For example a newsletter pop-up needs a newsletter list first.
• You can also ask the AI assistant, for example "Add an announcement bar saying we're hiring". You can undo it from the chat.

Common problems

• "Status unknown". Reload the page.
• I changed it but it does not show. Look for the Publish changes bar at the bottom and press it. See Publish changes.
• I can't change the cookie banner. Only the site owner can.
