How do I choose how readers sign in?

In this story

Where: Settings → Readers & money → Connections → Readers & sign-in (Sign-in methods section)

Open this page: admin.<your-site>/settings/connections/readers#kn-rd-methods (replace <your-site> with your site address)

Before you start

  • Only the owner can change this.

Steps

  1. Open Settings → Readers & money → Connections → Readers & sign-in.
  2. Switch on the methods you want:
    • Email (link + code). It needs an email provider. If none is connected, press Connect email.
    • Phone (one-time code). It needs an SMS provider.
  3. Under Send codes by, choose how codes go out (for example SMS). Choose at least one.
  4. Continue with Google: enter the Web client id. Android and iOS client ids are optional. See Google sign-in.
  5. Continue with Apple: enter the Services id, Key id, Team id and the Sign in with Apple key (.p8). In Apple add the return URL shown (your site address followed by /account/sign-in).
  6. Save.

Good to know

  • If you have an iPhone app and offer Google sign-in, Apple requires "Continue with Apple" too.

Common problems

  • "Add the web client id, or turn Google off."
  • "Google client ids end with .apps.googleusercontent.com."
  • "Add the Services id from Apple, or turn Apple off."
  • "Key id and Team id are 10 characters."
  • "Connect an email provider first."
