How do I use my own web address?

In this story

Where: Settings → Site & brand → Your web address

Open this page: admin.<your-site>/settings/domain (replace <your-site> with your site address)

Before you start

  • Only the site owner can change the web address. Others can look at the page.
  • To use your own name, you first need to own it. See Connect your domain.

Steps

  1. Open Settings → Site & brand → Your web address.
  2. Read Your address now. The chip says Working, Free address, Connecting, Not working, Not set up or Couldn't check.
  3. If it says Free address and you want your own name, press Add your own domain. keynate.com opens in a new tab.
  4. Follow the steps there. We set it up for you.
  5. Come back and press Check again. Last checked shows the time.
  6. When the chip says Working, visitors reach your site at your own name. They see a padlock, so their connection is private.

Good to know

  • Connecting usually takes up to an hour. You don't need to do anything.
  • If it is still not working after 2 hours, press Contact support.
  • Not working means your address stopped working. Press Fix it on keynate.com.
  • Press Manage on keynate.com to change the name or see its status.
  • A name like yourname.com is easy to remember and makes readers trust your site.

Common problems

  • "Only the site owner can change the web address." Ask the owner to do it on keynate.com.
  • "We couldn't check just now. Try again in a minute." Press Check again in a minute.
  • Still waiting after 2 hours. See Domain status and Domain problems.
