Where: Settings → Content & publishing → Content types → Edit a content type
Open this page: admin.<your-site>/settings/content-types (replace <your-site> with your site address). Then open the one you want. If you don’t see it in the menu, turn on Show all settings on the Settings page.
Before you start
- You need the owner or an admin account.
Steps
- Open Settings → Content & publishing → Content types and press New content type (or Edit on an existing one).
- Under Name and web address, fill Name (one), for example Car review, and Name (many). Choose the Web address. A line shows where entries open. Pick an Icon.
- Turn on Show a list page of all entries if you want one.
- Turn on List the entries in the sitemap for search engines if you want them found.
- Under Fields, the first field is the title and is always required. Press Add a field.
- For each field set the Label and the Kind: Short text, Long text, Formatted text, Whole number, Number with decimals, Date, Date and time, Yes / no, Choice, Link, Photo, Photos, Story link, Map point, File or Group of fields.
- Optional per field: Required, Many values, Show on cards. For Choice, enter the Choices, one per line or separated by commas.
- Use Move up and Move down to reorder.
- Under Cards and pages, choose the Summary text (or Automatic) and the Main photo.
- Under Search engines, optionally choose a schema.org type. It helps search engines understand the page. It does not change how your page looks in search results by itself.
- Press Save. The page says "Content type saved".
Good to know
- After saving, a field keeps its kind so existing entries keep working. Add a new field instead.
- The Key of a field can't change after saving. It uses letters and digits, starting with a lower-case letter.
- You can add choices later but not remove them.
- To change a web address, first unpublish all its entries.
- Removed fields are hidden from the form and the site. Saved values are kept. Press Bring back to restore a field.
- Archive removes the type from Entries. Its entries are kept. If any are published, they stop showing on your site until you bring the type back.
Common problems
- "Some fields need a look. They are marked below."
