How do I organise sections and tags?

In this story

Where: Stories → Sections & tags

Open this page: admin.<your-site>/taxonomy (replace <your-site> with your site address)

Before you start

  • Owners, admins and editors manage sections and tags.

Steps

  1. Open Stories then Sections & tags. There are three tabs: Sections, Tags and Trending topics.
  2. Add a section: tap Add a section. Type the Name, optional Description, Title for search engines, and choose Inside (Top level or another section). Tick Show in the site menu if wanted.
  3. Reorder: use Move up and Move down, or make a sub-section. Then tap Save order.
  4. Tags: tap New tag. A Topic gets its own page and can trend. A Keyword only helps search and stays off the tag list and sitemap. Locked tag stops writers creating a similar tag.
  5. Merge tags: open a tag then Merge into another tag. All stories move to the tag you choose. Old links redirect and the old name is kept as another name.
  6. Trending: the site finds trending topics itself. Pin a topic to keep it at the top, or hide one.

Good to know

  • Changing an address (slug) is safe: the old address forwards to the new one.
  • You can not delete a section that still has stories, sub-sections, menus or homepage parts using it. Move those first.
  • Other names for a section each get their own address that sends readers to it.

Common problems

  • "This section is still used by stories, sub-sections, menus or the homepage. Move those first, then delete it." Something still uses the section. Move those items, then delete.

Questions
