Main address or a section of my address? How many settings do I add?

In this story

Which one should I pick?

  • Pick Main address if the address is new or unused. The site replaces any parking page there.
  • Pick A section of your address if your business already has a website at that address. Your old site keeps working.
  • A section needs a short name, such as blog, news, help or jobs. The name www is not allowed here, because www belongs to your main address.

Which address do visitors see: www or without www?

For a main address, Keynate asks Which address should your site use? The recommended answer is www.yournews.com. The other one sends visitors to it. www or without www

The optional dashboard address

Under the needed settings you may see an optional one for your admin address. Without it, you still open your admin from My sites. The page shows "Dashboard address not set up yet" until you add it.

Steps

  1. Open My sites, your site, then Add your web address.
  2. Choose Main address or A section of your address.
  3. Type the address. For a section, type the section name too.
  4. Tap Continue and copy the settings. How do I connect my domain?

Good to know

  • Some providers don't allow the record type for the plain address. The screen may show an alternative value to use. What are DNS records?
  • A site can have up to 5 web addresses.

Common problems

  • "www is used by your main address. Pick another name, like blog or news." Type another section name.
  • "Maybe an old website or a parking page." Use a section address to keep it, or continue to replace it.
