How do I sell memberships and lock premium stories?

In this story

Where: Readers & money → Paywall

Open this page: admin.<your-site>/money/paywall (replace <your-site> with your site address). In the menu it sits under More.

Before you start

  • This is an add-on. It is included in some plans: see your plan on keynate.com (Choose a plan).
  • Only the site owner can add it.
  • A payment gateway connected and tested. See Payments.

Steps

  1. Open Settings → Site & brand → Add features. The page is called Features.
  2. Find Memberships and paywall. A paid feature shows Paid and Needs with the plan that has it. Tap Buy and finish the purchase on keynate.com (it may open in a new tab).
  3. Come back to Features. It shows Being set up for a few minutes, then On.
  4. Open Settings → Readers & money → How your site makes money, and pick how your site earns.
  5. Open Readers & money, then Plans: set the price, how often readers pay and what they get.
  6. Open Paywall to set the free story meter and what readers see at the wall.
  7. Mark stories as premium in the editor.

Good to know

  • Which stories are locked is decided on the server, not by the page.
  • Orders & refunds, Subscribers, Check payments match and the Subscription report are in Readers & money.
  • Make a test purchase before you switch to Live.
  • Paid features cannot be switched off in Features.

Common problems

I cannot find Memberships and paywall in my admin. Why: The feature is off or not yet installed. Fix: Open Settings → Site & brand → Add features. If it shows Buy, it is not in your plan yet. If it shows Being set up, wait a few minutes. Paid features you don't own are listed in the menu under Add more features.
