Where: Stories → All stories → The story editor
Open this page: admin.<your-site>/articles (replace <your-site> with your site address). Then open the one you want.
Before you start
- Owners, admins and editors can publish and schedule. Other roles see Send for review and an editor publishes.
- A headline, a main section (once your site has sections) and at least one author are always needed. Your owner can also require a lead image, image description or meta description.
Steps
- Open the story. Look at the Ready to publish strip. It says how many things you still need to add. Tap an item to jump to the field.
- To publish now, tap Publish story. You see "Published. It’s live on your site."
- To publish later, tap More actions then Schedule. In the Schedule box pick Publish at and tap Schedule. The time must be in the future. The box names the time zone the time is in.
- As a reporter or contributor, tap Send for review. You see "Sent for review. An editor will publish it."
- To take a live story offline, tap Unpublish and confirm. Readers then see “story no longer available”. It leaves the sitemaps, RSS and Most read within a minute.
- To change a scheduled story, use Back to draft from More actions, or Publish story to publish it now.
Good to know
- If checks fail, a box called Fix these before publishing lists Must fix items (they block publishing) and Worth a look items (warnings). Tap Fix to jump to each.
- An AI translation can not be published until a person has reviewed every part.
- A story with an unopened poll or form shows a warning that readers will not see it.
- Rapid breaking stories can skip some checks if the owner allows it.
Common problems
- Publish story is greyed out. Something required is missing. The tooltip says "To publish, add:" and the fields. Tap the item in the strip and fill it in.
- "Pick a time in the future." The schedule time has passed. Choose a later time.
- "Fix these before publishing." One or more checks failed. Open each Must fix item and correct it.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Publish story and Publish changes?
Publish story puts this one story on your site. Publish changes is the bar for site settings and design, like your logo or colours. Stories don't need it.
Can a reporter publish?
No. A reporter sends the story for review. An editor, admin or owner publishes it.
Does unpublishing delete the story?
No. It becomes Unpublished and you can publish it again later.
