How do I add people, organisations, places and events?

In this story

Where: Stories → People & places

Open this page: admin.<your-site>/entities (replace <your-site> with your site address). In the menu it sits under More.

Before you start

  • Owners, admins and editors manage this list.

Steps

  1. Open Stories then People & places.
  2. Choose a type and tap Add person, Add organisation, Add company, Add place, Add event (and Add industry or Add coverage area where your site offers them).
  3. Type the Name. Leave the Web address empty to make one from the name.
  4. Add a Description and a Photo.
  5. Add Other spellings (aliases) with a language code (like hi or en) so search finds them.
  6. Under The same on other sites add a Wikidata item (like Q42), Wikipedia page, Official website or other links (https, at most 10 in total).
  7. Tap Save.

Good to know

  • Places sit in a tree: country, region, state, district, city, area. Start with a country, then Add a place inside.
  • A place can be made a local news page. See City editions.
  • Deleting an item removes its page. Stories stay but are no longer linked to it.
  • Events can have Starts on and Ends on dates.
