Before you start
- An Anthropic Console account. A Claude chat subscription is separate and does not cover API use.
- Credit on your Anthropic account. Anthropic uses prepaid credit.
- Only members who manage AI can connect an account, and you need to have signed in recently.
Steps
- Open the Claude Console keys page and sign in.
- Choose Create Key and give it a name you will recognise.
- Copy the key now. The Console shows it only once.
- Open the billing page and add credit if your balance is empty.
- In your site admin, open Settings → Content & publishing → Your AI accounts. Find the Anthropic card.
- Paste the key and tap Test & connect. You see "Checking your key…" and then Connected ✓.

Good to know
- Anthropic charges for each request from your credit balance. You can turn on automatic top-up there, and it is worth setting a spend limit first. Keynate adds nothing on top.
- The key goes only to the AI workspace on your own server. Keynate never sees it and never adds a fee.
- Keep the key private. Never put it in a support ticket or a chat.
- If you stop using Anthropic, remove the account in Your AI accounts and delete the key on the Anthropic website too.
Common problems
Anthropic refused this key
Copy the whole key again. Check that the key was not deleted in the Console.
Your Anthropic account has no credit left
Anthropic may say the credit balance is too low. Add credit on the billing page. Make sure the key belongs to the same organisation and workspace as the credit.
Anthropic is limiting requests right now
Wait a minute and try again.
Anthropic isn’t answering right now
