Before you start
Your site has the app (see Add apps). You have a Google Play developer account, an Apple Developer account, or both.
Steps
- Open My sites, your site, then Your apps. You can also tap the Your apps card on your site page.
- Use the On this page menu (a bar at the top on phones, a column on laptops). It shows a dot per section: done, your turn or working. If you have both apps, tabs switch between Android and iPhone.
- Follow What to do next. The store guide lists every step. See Publish Android or Publish iPhone.
- Set App name & icon. See App name and icon.
- Connect your store on the Android app (Google Play) or iPhone & iPad app (App Store) card.
- Fill in Store checklists. See Store checklists.
- Under Versions & publishing, in Build, preview and publish, tap Build Android app or Build iPhone app. Progress shows as Build, Send to store, Preview and Publish.
- When it says Ready to preview, scan the QR code or tap Open the preview link on your phone.
- Tap Publish to Google Play or Publish to the App Store, then Publish. The store reviews it, then it goes live.
Good to know
- Android: Keynate updates your store listing and releases to 20% of users first. Use Release to 50% or Release to everyone to go further. Stop rollout pauses it; Continue rollout starts it again.
- iPhone: after Apple approves, the update reaches users over 7 days.
- Each version shows its state: Starting, Building, Sending to the store, Ready to preview, Publishing, Published, Rollout stopped, Didn't finish or Older version. The 3 newest show first; tap Show older versions for the rest.
- To go back to an older version, tap Go back to this version, then Rebuild this version. Stores only accept newer version numbers, so it is rebuilt with a new number.
- When your site's notification settings change, Add-ons / Rebuild offers a rebuild. Keynate never rebuilds by itself.
- New stories appear in the app by themselves. No rebuild is needed for them.
- The page may show Test mode. Then nothing is sent to Google Play or the App Store, and builds are simulated.
- iPhone builds may say Coming soon while Keynate switches them on for your site. You can connect your App Store account now.
- Your News admin also has Settings → Site & brand → Publish my app with a short checklist per store.
- Optional crash reports for your app are under Help. See App diagnostics.
Common problems
- A build that Didn't finish: try again. See My app does not build or publish.
- The store asked for a change: see My app was rejected.
