My app was rejected by Google or Apple. What now?

In this story

Before you start

Find the store's message. For Google Play it is in Play Console → Inbox or Policy status. For Apple it is in App Store Connect → your app → App Review.

Steps

  1. Open My sites, your site, Your apps. In the On this page menu tap Versions & publishing.
  2. Under Versions, find the version. Its chip shows the store and the status.
  3. If it says Needs a fix, open Fix the rejection under it.
  4. Paste the reviewer's message into the box and tap Show me the fix.
  5. Do the numbered steps. Each one says where to make the change.
  6. Copy the Prepared reply and send it to the store if it asks for an answer.
  7. Tap Fix and resubmit when it is shown. Keynate updates the review information and sends the app again. If the app or the listing changed, start a new build first.
  8. Tap Check again later to see the new status.

Good to know

  • The statuses are Waiting for review, In review, Live in the store, Needs a fix and Not sent for review. If it says Not sent for review, tap Send for review again.
  • Google usually reviews in a few hours to a few days. Apple usually takes 1 to 2 days.
  • Common fixes Keynate knows: a working reviewer sign-in, a store listing in your own name, the Data safety form, comment moderation, screenshots of the real app, and answers to Apple's "Information Needed" questions.
  • Use Update the fix if the store sends a new message.
  • The review number goes up each time the store checks again.

Common problems

  • The reviewers could not sign in. Check the reviewer sign-in still works, or make a New code. See Give the store reviewers a sign-in.
  • Apple asked for a review video. Follow the steps under Review video (iPhone) in Review information and attach it in App Store Connect.
  • The fix says "Contact Keynate support". Keynate couldn't match the message to a known fix. Use Report a problem on the page and paste the message.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Will my live app disappear?

A rejection of a new version doesn't remove the version that is already live. Readers keep using it.

Do I pay again to resubmit?

No. Keynate charges nothing to resubmit. The store accounts are yours.
