How do I give the store reviewers a sign-in?

In this story

Before you start

Your site has the Android or iPhone app. If your app has no reader sign-in, the page says Your app has no sign-in, so the reviewers need no account. Then you need nothing here.

Steps

  1. Open My sites, your site, Your apps. In the On this page menu tap Store checklists.
  2. Under Review information, find Reviewer sign-in. It is also inside the Play Console checklist item Sign in details.
  3. Tap Create the reviewer sign-in for me.
  4. Wait about 2 minutes while it says Setting it up on your site. The answers fill in by themselves.
  5. You now see Email (user name) with a copy button. The 6-digit code shows once under Password (the 6-digit code). Later, tap Show code to see it again. Keynate asks you to confirm it's you first.
  6. For Google Play: in Play Console open Monitor and improve → Policy and programs → App content → Sign in details. Answer Yes to Is any part of your app restricted? and press Add sign in details. Copy each answer from the checklist into the field with the same name: Name, Username, email address, or phone number, Password (the 6-digit code) and Any other information required to access your app. Tick the box that the sign in details give full access. Save.
  7. Tap Mark as done on the Sign in details item.
  8. For the App Store you need to do nothing more. Keynate sends the sign-in with the review notes at every submission.

Good to know

  • The email is a special address on your site. It has no real mailbox and works only for this sign-in.
  • It opens member-only stories so reviewers can check them. It is never counted as a reader or member.
  • The page shows when a reviewer last signed in.
  • New code makes a new code and the old one stops working. Then paste the new code in Play Console → Sign in details too.
  • Turn off stops the sign-in. Reviewers can't sign in after this. Turning it on again makes a new code.
  • You can also add an account you made yourself, for example a paid member. Tap More options: add an account you made yourself under Reviewer accounts, fill it in and tap Save reviewer account.
  • If the sign-in stops working (for example, too many wrong codes), Keynate emails the site owner with the next step.

Common problems

  • "Someone typed too many wrong codes, so this sign-in is paused." Tap New code to use it again now. Then paste the new code in Play Console.
  • "Your site hasn't confirmed it yet." Your site needs the latest Keynate update first. Approve it under Updates on your site page, then tap New code.
  • "Turn on two-step sign-in for your keynate.com account first." Showing the code needs two-step sign-in on your account. See Two-step sign-in.
  • It says "It is off (turned off in your site's admin)". Someone turned it off in your News admin. Tap the create button again to make a new code.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is this safe for my site?

Yes. The sign-in can only read stories. It cannot publish, edit or see your readers. The code is stored sealed and shown only to you.

Do I need it if my app has no sign-in?

No. Answer No to Is any part of your app restricted? The checklist shows that answer for you.
