How do I connect PayPal?

In this story

Where: Settings → Readers & money → Connections → Payments

Open this page: admin.<your-site>/settings/connections/payments (replace <your-site> with your site address)

Before you start

  • A PayPal Developer account with an app. You must be the site owner.

Good to know first

  • PayPal takes no rupees. It is for readers outside India (dollars, euros and more). For rupee prices connect Razorpay.
  • If a plan is priced only in rupees, add a price in dollars or euros so PayPal readers can pay. Keynate warns you when a price cannot be paid with PayPal.

Steps

  1. In Keynate, open Settings → Readers & money → Connections → Payments and press Add connection.
  2. Choose the Gateway PayPal and the Mode: Test mode or Live mode.
  3. In PayPal Developer, open Apps & Credentials and your app.
  4. Copy the Client ID and Secret into Keynate.
  5. Press the button at the bottom of the sheet (it reads Connect Razorpay for every gateway). Copy the Webhook URL from the card.
  6. In your PayPal app, open Webhooks, add the URL and tick the listed events.
  7. Copy the Webhook ID and paste it in Keynate.
  8. Press Test connection.
  9. Make a test payment. PayPal tests use a small amount in US dollars. Log in with a PayPal sandbox Personal buyer from another country (for example the United States), not your business account. See Make a test payment.
  10. When it works, press Go live with PayPal and add your live details.

The webhook step is explained in Payment messages (webhook).

Common problems

  • "Paste the Client ID of your PayPal app."
  • "Paste the Webhook ID (letters and numbers only)."
