How do I paste the payment messages address into Razorpay, Stripe or PayPal?

Where: Settings → Readers & money → Connections → Payments

Open this page: admin.<your-site>/settings/connections/payments (replace <your-site> with your site address)

Before you start

• Connect Razorpay, Stripe or PayPal first. See Payments.
• You must be the site owner.

Steps

Stripe and PayPal: Keynate sets up the payment messages in your account for you when it can. The card says "Payment messages are set up in Stripe for you." If it can't, it says "One more step" and a Finish setup button. Follow the steps below.

Razorpay: it can't be done for you. The Razorpay card has a guided 3-step box with a live check: Waiting for Razorpay's first message… turns into We received Razorpay's first message. after your first payment, test or real. Press Check now to look again. See Connect Razorpay.

The steps for any gateway:

1. Open Settings → Readers & money → Connections → Payments.
2. On the card of your gateway, find the box Webhook.
3. Press Open webhooks (the button names your gateway). The gateway's dashboard opens in a new tab.
4. In the gateway, press Add.
5. Back in Keynate, press Copy next to the Webhook URL and paste it in the gateway.
6. Tick the events listed in the Keynate box.
7. Razorpay: press Copy on the secret code and paste it as the secret. Use a different secret for test and live.
8. Save it in the gateway.
9. Stripe and PayPal show a code after saving. Stripe calls it the signing secret and it starts with whsec_. PayPal calls it the Webhook ID. Copy it and paste it in the matching box in Keynate.
10. Press Test connection.

Good to know

• Test mode and live mode each need their own webhook.
• If you lose the secret, add a new webhook in the gateway and paste the new code.

Common problems

• "Paste the webhook secret you typed in Razorpay." The box in Keynate is empty. Paste the same secret you gave Razorpay.
• "Use a different webhook secret for test and live." Make a new secret for the second mode.
• "Paste the webhook signing secret. It starts with whsec_." Copy it from Stripe after you add the endpoint.
• "Paste the Webhook ID (letters and numbers only)." Copy the ID from your PayPal app's Webhooks list.
• Razorpay still says "Waiting for Razorpay's first message…". Make a small test payment. The message arrives after the first payment. Then press Check now.
• An order stays unpaid after the reader paid. The webhook is missing or wrong. Each night Keynate also compares your orders with your gateway and fixes missed ones.
