Before you start
- A gateway connected in Test mode. See Payments.
- The webhook added in the gateway.
- Allow pop-ups for your admin. The test opens in a new tab.
Steps
- Open Settings → Readers & money → Connections → Payments.
- Find Make a test payment.
- If you connected more than one gateway, choose one under Pay with.
- Press Pay (the button shows the small test amount).
- Finish the payment in the new tab. Use the test details your gateway gives for test mode.
- Come back to Keynate. Open Orders and refunds. The order shows as paid once the gateway confirms it.
- When it works, press Go live with your gateway (for example Go live with PayPal) and add the live details in Live mode.
- For PayPal live, open PayPal → Payment preferences and allow payments in other currencies. Otherwise PayPal holds payments in another currency until you accept them by hand.
Good to know
- PayPal takes no rupees. Its test is a small amount in US dollars. For prices in rupees, connect Razorpay.
- PayPal test: use the right buyer. In the new tab, log in with a PayPal sandbox Personal buyer from another country (for example the United States), not your business account. Buyers from India can't pay sellers in India on PayPal. The card has an Open PayPal sandbox accounts link. If your browser stopped the new tab, the card shows Open PayPal to open it on this page.
- PayPal is for readers outside India. A plan priced only in rupees cannot be paid with PayPal. Add a price in dollars or euros to the plan.
- The order can take a short while to turn to paid. The gateway must send its message first.
Common problems
- "Your browser blocked the new tab." Allow pop-ups for this admin and try again.
- "The checkout was closed." Nothing was charged. Press Pay again.
- "The test payment didn't go through." Check the connection and try again.
- The order stays unpaid. The webhook is missing.
