How do I use the AI design and code workspace?

In this story

Where: Home → AI assistant

Open this page: admin.<your-site>/ai (replace <your-site> with your site address)

Before you start

  • Owners, admins, editors and copy editors can use it. Changes to site code are for the owner. The AI runs on your own free OpenRouter account. Using the AI assistant for free
  • The AI needs a larger server size. If it is not ready the page tells you why, for example "The AI isn’t installed on your server yet" or "The AI on your server isn’t running right now. Try again in a minute."

Steps

  1. Open Home → AI assistant.
  2. Tap New task. Describe the task in your own words, for example change colours or fonts, add a section to the home page, write a draft, tidy the menu.
  3. Pick the AI model.
  4. Choose Plan (the AI only reads and explains) or Act (it makes changes and asks before each one).
  5. Read each step. Tap Approve or Reject when the AI asks. Tap Stop to end.
  6. To keep the result, tap Save as a version, then Go to preview & publish. See Software update and versions.
  7. Open Scheduled tasks to run tasks at set times as a team member you choose.

Good to know

  • Auto-approve safe edits only covers changes to your working copy (you can restore any checkpoint) and new drafts. Publishing, the ticker and breaking news always ask you.
  • Checkpoints let you see changes and Restore this checkpoint.
  • Discard unsaved changes throws away the AI’s changes that are not saved as a version. Saved versions stay.
  • Scheduled tasks write drafts unless you allow publishing. Pause all scheduled tasks stops them.
  • Free models on your OpenRouter account have a daily limit. They may use your prompts to improve: do not paste private business data. For private data, choose a paid model.
  • If a change would add a paid add-on your site does not have, it is refused until you add it. Included in some plans: see your plan on keynate.com.

Common problems

  • "This change can’t be saved: …" The change breaks a rule, for example it adds a paid feature you do not have. Add the feature first or ask the AI for something else.
