How do I turn on two-step verification?

In this story

Before you start

Your email must be verified. Have your authenticator app on your phone.

Turn it on

  1. Open Account. Find Two-step verification.
  2. Tap Turn on two-step verification. Keynate may ask you to confirm it's you first (see below).
  3. Scan the QR code with your authenticator app. Can't scan it? Enter the key shown, as a time-based key.
  4. Enter the 6-digit code shown in the app, then tap Turn on.
  5. Save your recovery codes. Copy or download them. Tap I’ve saved my codes.

Recovery codes

If you lose your phone, each recovery code lets you sign in once. Keep them somewhere safe. Keynate will not show them again. The page shows how many you have left. To get a new set, tap Get new recovery codes. Old codes then stop working.

Turn it off

Tap Turn off. Enter a code from your authenticator app or a recovery code.

Confirm it's you

For some changes, Keynate asks Confirm it’s you first. You can use any way you sign in to Keynate (your password, Google, Facebook, Apple or LinkedIn) or a code sent by email. Facebook, Apple and LinkedIn open their own page and then bring you back to where you were. If two-step is on, you also enter your authenticator code. Keynate does not ask again for the next 10 minutes.

Common problems

  • "That code isn’t valid. Check your authenticator app and try again." Use the newest code, or a recovery code.
  • "Your setup expired. Start turning on two-step verification again."
  • "Verify your email address before turning on two-step verification."
  • "Two-step verification is already on / off." Reload the page.
  • I lost my phone and my recovery codes. keynate.com has no self-service reset for lost two-step codes. Ask support for help: How do I get help?. If you only lost your phone, sign in with one of your saved recovery codes. Save new recovery codes when you turn two-step on.
