Where: Newsroom → Reader notifications
Open this page: admin.<your-site>/m/push-alerts (replace <your-site> with your site address)
Before you start
- This is an add-on. It is included in some plans: see your plan on keynate.com (Choose a plan).
- Only the site owner can add it.
- Notifications turned on in Settings, and web push or app keys set up.
Steps
- Open Settings → Site & brand → Add features. The page is called Features.
- Find Push alerts. A paid feature shows Paid and Needs with the plan that has it. Tap Buy and finish the purchase on keynate.com (it may open in a new tab).
- Come back to Features. It shows Being set up for a few minutes, then On.
- Open Newsroom → Reader notifications.
- Write the Alert title and choose how urgent it is: Flash, Breaking or Developing.
- Choose who gets it and link the story readers land on.
- Preview it on phone and desktop, then send, schedule, or send it for approval.
Good to know
- Flash goes to every follower of the edition. Breaking goes to followers of the topics you pick. Developing is a gentler alert.
- Settings cover an hourly limit, a duplicate window and approval rules.
- Keep titles short. Phones cut long titles.
- Paid features cannot be switched off in Features.
Common problems
The screen says notifications are switched off. Why: Notifications are off for this site. Fix: Open Settings → Readers & money → Connections → Notifications, and turn them on.
I cannot find Push alerts in my admin. Why: The feature is off or not yet installed. Fix: Open Settings → Site & brand → Add features. If it shows Buy, it is not in your plan yet. If it shows Being set up, wait a few minutes. Paid features you don't own are listed in the menu under Add more features.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
Can I take an alert back?
You can stop one that is still waiting. Alerts already on phones cannot be removed, but you can send a correction to the same people.
Who gets an alert?
Everyone who follows the edition, or readers who follow the sections or tags you pick.
Do I see how many opened it?
There is a delivery report. Opens and taps are counted once per device. Some browsers report only taps.
