Where: Settings → Readers & money → Connections → Notifications
Open this page: admin.<your-site>/settings/connections/notifications (replace <your-site> with your site address)
Before you start
- The Notifications feature must be on your site, or you see an add-on card. See your plan on keynate.com.
- Admins can view. Only the owner can change keys.
Steps
- Open Settings → Readers & money → Connections. Under More settings, open Notifications.
- In Set up reader notifications, read the three channels: Website, Android app, iPhone app. Each shows Not set up, Ready or Problem, with a checklist.
- Do each lane. See web push, Android and iPhone.
- Choose when to ask readers.
- Choose what sends a notification.
- Press the test button for each lane.
Good to know
- These are one-to-one notifications: replies, account and security, receipts, privacy and complaint updates. Breaking-news alerts to many readers are part of the Push alerts module.
- After changing app credentials, the wizard may show Rebuild your app to turn on push. Phones get push only after a new build. When your app page on keynate.com offers a new app version, accept it. It asks for your consent.
Common problems
- "Device ids have 26 letters and numbers. Copy it from Account → Notifications on that device." Open the app or site on that phone to copy it.
- "This file isn’t a Firebase service account. Download it from Firebase → Project settings → Service accounts."
- "This isn’t an APNs .p8 key. It starts with “BEGIN PRIVATE KEY”." Upload the .p8 file Apple gave you.
- "Key id and Team id are 10 characters."
Questions
Frequently asked questions
Do I need Firebase and Apple keys?
Website push needs nothing: your server makes the keys. Android is handled by Keynate ("Keynate handles notifications in your Android app."). For iPhone, if the section says Waiting for your app’s push setup, Keynate sets it up with your app and you do nothing. Otherwise it needs your Apple push key (.p8). See iPhone (Apple). Use my own keys (advanced) is only for people who run their own Firebase or Apple setup.
Who can change notification settings?
Only the site owner. Admins can view them.
