How do I add my GST number to my invoice?

In this story

Before you start

Have your billing address and, for a business invoice, your GST number (GSTIN) ready.

Steps in India

  1. On Check and pay, open Invoice details.
  2. Choose India as Billing country.
  3. Choose your state under Choose your state. It decides the GST on your invoice.
  4. Enter Address, City and PIN code.
  5. For a business invoice, tick I have a GST number (for business invoices) and enter the GST number (GSTIN).
  6. Check the price. GST is included in it on your invoice.

Steps outside India

  1. Choose your Billing country.
  2. Enter your address.
  3. If you buy for a business with a tax number, tick I'm buying for a business with a and your country's tax number (for example a VAT number). Enter it. It is shown on your invoice. Your business accounts for any local VAT or GST (reverse charge).

Good to know

  • Your price stays the same. The billing country only decides which kind of invoice you get. It never changes the amount or the currency.
  • In India you get a GST tax invoice. In Haryana (Keynate's state) it shows CGST + SGST. In every other state it shows IGST. The GST is part of the price you see.
  • Outside India you get an export invoice with no Indian GST, when your payment came from abroad in a foreign currency. If Keynate can't confirm that (for example, part of the order was paid from your Keynate Wallet, or the payment came from India), you get a normal GST invoice with IGST instead. The amount you pay is the same either way.
  • A refund gets a credit note. It shows the same tax as the invoice it refunds.
  • A free order (for example 100% off) gets no invoice.
  • If your name or address is missing, the invoice waits until you add them under Account → Billing details. It is then dated your payment day. See Billing details.

Common problems

  • "That GST number doesn’t look right. Check it and try again." Check each character.
  • "Please choose your state — it decides the GST on your invoice." Pick your state first.
  • "This GST number is registered in a different state." The state of the GST number must match your billing state. Check both.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I add the GST number after I pay?

It is best to fill it in before you tap Pay securely. You can add it later under Account → Billing details: it is used for your next invoices. An invoice already issued can't be changed. For a problem with one, raise a ticket with the invoice number.

Why is there no GST on my invoice from abroad?

Services sold abroad and paid in a foreign currency are an export. Indian law lets Keynate invoice them without GST under a letter of undertaking (LUT). The invoice says so.
