Steps
- Open My sites, your site, then Buy a site in another language (or Language sites, then the buy button).
- Sign in if asked. Your new site starts with the same design and plan as your first site.
- Pick the language. Search by its English name or its own name.
- Choose where the new site lives:
- A subdomain of your main site. Recommended. Search engines see it as its own site, linked to your main one. After you pay, you add 2 records at your domain provider.
- A folder on your main site. Lives inside your main address, like yournews.com/hindi. Your main domain must be connected. After you pay, you add 1 record for its dashboard.
- Its own domain. You connect it after you pay, like your first site.
- Type the word for the subdomain or folder. The screen checks it is free and shows the full address.
- Optionally tick Copy branding from your other site. It copies colours, fonts, icons and logos. You type the site name and tagline in the new language.
- Continue to pay.
After you pay
- Open Language sites on either site. Each member card shows its language, address and state.
- Joins when ready means the new site will appear next to the main site when its setup finishes.
- If a card says Address setup, copy the records it shows at the DNS provider of your main domain.
Good to know
- A family can have up to 30 sites. The screen may show a family discount; the percentage is on your screen.
- If your family already has a site in that language, you can still buy it as a regional or network site, for example a state edition. It is listed under "Our sites", not in the language switcher.
- Changing a site's language is a different action. How do I change my site's language?
Common problems
- "Your family already has a site in this language." Pick another language, or buy it as a regional or network site.
- "Use one short word of lower-case letters, digits or hyphens, like /hindi." Some words, such as admin and api, are reserved.
- "Another site of your family already uses that path/name." Pick another.
- Needs your decision. A card asks you to choose a new address or keep it as a separate site. Follow the buttons on the card.
- Address lost. Your main site's domain is no longer connected. Fix it on the main site.
