How do I post an incident notice?

In this story

Where: Settings → Advanced → Status page (Incident notices section)

Open this page: admin.<your-site>/settings/status#incident-notices (replace <your-site> with your site address). If you don’t see it in the menu, turn on Show all settings on the Settings page.

Before you start

  • You need permission to manage operations (owner or admin).

Steps

  1. Open Settings → Advanced → Status page.
  2. Under Incident notices, press New notice.
  3. Enter a Title, short and plain, for example "Search is slow".
  4. Under How bad is it? choose No effect yet, Minor: slower than usual, Major: partly down or Critical: down. Tick the Affected parts.
  5. Under Where are you now? choose Investigating, Cause found, Monitoring or Resolved.
  6. Write the Message for readers. It is public, so add no private details.
  7. Save. The page says "Saved".
  8. To add news later, press Post an update, then Post update. Choose Resolved when it is fixed: this closes the notice and the parts go back to normal.

Good to know

  • While the notice is open, the chosen parts show the impact level on the status page.
  • Turn on Only open notices to hide resolved ones.
  • Delete removes a notice from your public status data. To keep a record, mark it resolved instead.
  • The page says "No notices. Everything is quiet." when there are none.
