Where: Settings → Site & brand → Publish my app
Open this page: admin.<your-site>/settings/app/publish (replace <your-site> with your site address)
Before you start
- Your site needs an app. See Add apps.
- You need your own developer account for each store. Google and Apple charge their own fees. Keynate does not.
- Only you can press Submit, after confirming it's you.
Steps
- Open Settings → Site & brand → App, then press Publish my app.
- Choose the Store: Google Play or App Store.
- Read the checklist Before Google Play (or App Store). Open a step to see what to do.
- Look at the chip on each step:
- Done or Done by Keynate. Nothing to do.
- Checking. Keynate or your site is checking it.
- Needs you. Do it in the store, using Open Play Console or Open App Store Connect.
- You ticked it. You marked it as done.
- Under Your answers (copy and paste) copy the answers into the store forms.
- When you have done a step in the store, press I've done this.
- When all steps are done, the page shows Ready to submit. Under Release press Prepare release.
- Check What's new and the Store texts: app name, short description and full description. Press Save texts.
- Press Try the test version if you want to see the app first.
- Press Submit. Keynate builds the app and sends it to the store review.
Store reviewer sign-in
Google's and Apple's reviewers must sign in to your app. Your readers sign in without a password, so Keynate makes one special sign-in for the reviewers. It can only read stories, never change your site, and is never counted as a reader or member.
- Make it on keynate.com: open Apps, then Review information, and press Create the reviewer sign-in for me. The Play checklist step Sign in details has the same button.
- Keynate puts the sign-in in your answers to copy: the email (app-review@ and your domain) and a 6-digit code. Paste them into the store's sign-in details.
- In the admin, the card Store reviewer sign-in under Settings → Site & brand → Publish my app shows the status: On, Paused or Off, and when a reviewer last signed in.
- To stop it, press Turn off, then Yes, turn off. Reviewers can't sign in after this. To turn it on again, make a new code on keynate.com.
If someone types too many wrong codes, the sign-in is Paused for a while, or turned off. You get an email. Make a new code on keynate.com, then paste the new code into the store's sign-in details.
Good to know
- Steps that Keynate or your site can check tick themselves. You tick only the ones you did in the store.
- Screenshots are taken from your built app automatically. The icon comes from your published brand.
- Your current app stays live until the store approves the new version.
- The release shows where it is: Sent to Keynate, On its way to the stores, then Live in the stores. The store itself shows In review, Approved or Rejected.
- Each app gets a limited number of store releases a month. A release with nothing changed still uses one.
- If the page says Keynate is still getting your server ready, you can work on the checklist now. Submit opens when it's ready.
- You can ask the AI, for example "What do I answer for App Privacy?" or "What's left before my app can go out?"
Common problems
- "Finish the open steps above to submit." Do the steps marked Needs you.
- "A release is already on its way to this store." Wait for it to finish, or press Cancel release.
- "This app had its store releases for this month." Try again next month.
- The store rejected the app. Read the message in the store, fix it, and prepare a new release. See App problems.
- "The store reviewer sign-in is already off." Nothing to do. Make a new code on keynate.com when you need it.
- The reviewer says "Continue with email" is missing. Email sign-in must be on for your site. See Reader sign-in.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
How long does the store review take?
The stores decide that. Keynate follows the review and shows you where it is.
Do I pay Keynate for the store?
No. Google and Apple charge their own developer fees for your accounts.
Can I stop a release?
Yes, with Cancel release while it is on its way.
Do readers need to update the app after every change?
No. Colours and tabs reach readers without an update. See Your app's look and tabs. Use Publish new version when you want a new store release.
