How do I make my site send email and SMS?

In this story

Where: Settings → Readers & money → Connections → Email & SMS

Open this page: admin.<your-site>/settings/connections/email (replace <your-site> with your site address)

Before you start

  • The Email feature must be on your site. If not, you see an add-on card. See your plan on keynate.com.
  • Admins can view this screen. Only the owner can change it.

Steps

  1. Open Settings → Readers & money → Connections. On the Email card, press All email settings.
  2. On Email, press Add email service. The sheet leads with Keynate Email (included), then Gmail or Google Workspace, Zoho Mail and Brevo, 3 short steps each. SMTP, Amazon SES and others are under More options. See How do I connect an email provider?.
  3. Open Sending domain and add the records. See How do I send email from my own address?.
  4. Optional: connect SMS on SMS & WhatsApp.
  5. On the Email tab, type your address in Send a test to, press Test connection on the provider card, and check your inbox and spam folder.

Good to know

  • If readers cannot yet sign in by email, the screen says: "Readers can't sign in with email yet. Connect an email provider."
  • Keynate never changes your DNS. You add the records yourself.

Common problems

  • No code arrives. Look in the Delivery log tab. See Delivery log.
  • Mail goes to spam. Add the records in Sending domain.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do I need my own email service?

No. When Keynate Email is ready on your site, it sends sign-in codes and notifications with no setup. It can also send your newsletters from your own address once your domain is verified. A service of your own (Gmail, Zoho Mail, Brevo or another) is still fine if you prefer it.

Who can change email settings?

Only the site owner. Admins can view them.
