How do software updates work, and who approves them?

The kinds of update

Each update has a label: New features, Recommended, Important or Required · security.

Steps

1. Open My sites and your site. Find the Software update card. (You can also use your admin: Software update)
2. Tap What’s new on an update to read what changes.
3. Choose one:
   • Update now. Starts now. A safety copy is taken first.
   • Schedule. Pick a date and time (your time). It must be before any deadline shown.
   • Remind me later. Pick when.
   • Hide until the next update.
4. For several updates, tap Update all now to install them together.
5. After an update, the card says Your site is up to date.

Good to know

• Expected downtime is shown on the update, usually under a minute. If your newsroom is busy (a live blog or a fresh story), Keynate waits a few minutes before it starts.
• Automatic undo if anything fails. The card says "The update couldn't be installed — nothing changed on your site."
• After a successful update you can tap Undo this update for a limited time. The card shows the date. Your stories, photos and settings stay as they are now.
• Required · security updates can't be postponed or hidden. Choose a time before the deadline. If you don't, Keynate applies it in your Maintenance window and emails you before and after. Your website and admin keep working.
• Set your Maintenance window on the card. Required security updates you haven't scheduled run only in this window.

Common problems

• "This update can no longer be undone with one click." One-click undo works for 14 days.
• "A newer update was applied after this one. Undo that one first."
• "This update changed how your data is stored, so it can’t be undone with one click. Write to support and we’ll help."
• "Another change is running on your site. Try again in a few minutes."
• "We can’t reach your server right now." Try again in a few minutes.
• "We already tried this update 3 times. It’s logged, your site stays on the last working version." Nothing is needed from you.
• "On hold: Keynate paused this update while we check something." Wait.
